Why a range is better than one number

The tool multiplies height in metres squared by BMI 18.5 and 24.9. That creates the weight span corresponding to the common adult reference range.

People at different points within or outside this span can still have very different health, body composition and wellbeing.

Use the range carefully

A broad range can provide orientation, but it should not become a rigid target. Trends in energy, strength, symptoms, blood markers and eating behaviour may be more useful than one scale number.

Small sustainable changes are usually easier to evaluate than trying to reach a theoretical midpoint quickly.

Important limits

The calculation is not designed for children, pregnancy, eating disorders or situations where fluid balance, muscle mass or illness strongly affects body weight.

Speak with a qualified professional when a weight target is medically important or the result causes concern.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the calculator not show an ideal weight?

Because no single number can represent health, body composition and personal circumstances.

Should I aim for the middle of the range?

Not automatically. The midpoint has no special medical meaning for an individual.

Are my values stored?

No. The calculation stays in your browser.
